The Pittsburgh Steelers 2016 OTA practices got underway on Tuesday and apparently wide receiver Antonio Brown was at least one player who was absent for the first session, according to a report by Jacob Klinger of Penn Live. Brown’s absence is probably related to him wrapping up his commitments to Dancing with the Stars.
With Brown absent on Tuesday, veteran wide receiver Darrius Heyward-Bey reportedly took his spot in the Steelers offense.
In addition to Brown being absent on Tuesday, Chris Mueller of the Beaver County Times reported on Tuesday that new Steelers tight end Ladarius Green sat out the team’s first OTA practice of 2016. Green, who the Steelers signed to a four-year, $20 million free agent contract back in March, is expected to have a large role in the team’s offense this year after tight end Heath Miller decided to retire earlier in the offseason.
Green more than likely is being held out of practices due to him not being fully recovered from surgery on his ankle. During his first meeting with the media following his signing with the team, Green said he expects to be ready for training camp in August.
