The Pittsburgh Steelers were busy entertaining four more pre-draft visitors on Friday and today’s list included three defensive lineman and another defensive back.
Maryland defensive end Quinton Jefferson, South Carolina State defensive tackle Javon Hargrave, Northwestern defensive end Dean Lowry and Mississippi safety Trae Elston all visited with the Steelers on Friday.
Jefferson, a Pittsburgh native, measures in at 6-3, 289-pounds. he recorded 39 total tackles last season and 6.5 sacks. Hargrave, who measures in at 6-1, 309-pounds, had 59 tackles, 22 tackles for loss and 13.5 sacks in 2015, along with 11 quarterback hits. Steelers defensive line coach John Mitchell was present for Hargrave’s March pro day as well.
As for the 6-6, 280-pound Lowry, he registered 52 total tackles in 2015 to go along with 3 sacks.
It’s obvious that the Steelers are looking at possibly drafting a defensive lineman this year as they’ve now brought in four so far for pre-draft visits. Earlier this week, Alabama defensive tackle A’Shawn Robinson was brought in for a visit.
As for Elston, who played with current Steelers cornerback Senquez Golson while the two were at Mississippi, he figures to be selected in the later rounds of the 2016 NFL Draft. The Steelers have brought in quite a few safeties in for visits so far this month in addition to several mid-round cornerbacks.
We will have full breakdowns on all of the players in the coming days.
