Just to do a little bit of house-keeping and make some of the things either we or other outlets have reported that are now official. The Pittsburgh Steelers are bringing in four players for official visits today, per Bob Labriola.
They are: Ohio State safety Vonn Bell, Auburn CB Jonathan Jones, Clemson safety T.J. Green, North Carolina Central CB Ryan Smith, and Akron LB Jatavis Brown.
All five were already known to be scheduled but now we have it confirmed and obviously, now know the day.
As has been the trend for Pittsburgh during this entire pre-draft process, the team continues to bring in every defensive back it can find. Bell’s Ohio State background bodes well for his chances of being drafted. The Steelers have drafted a Buckeye in five of the last six years.
Only Jones’ and Smith’s arm length fall short of our cornerback criteria so the fit is logical. Green is a true junior and incredibly raw, but an in-the-box hitter who ran a blazing 4.35 at the Combine.
Brown is a super-athlete who dominated the MAC and the NFLPA Game, though some don’t know his position at the next level.
Pittsburgh has brought in 15 of their allotted 30 pre-draft visitors. History tells you three of four of Pittsburgh’s picks will come from this pool so it’s certainly worth monitoring.
