Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent cornerback Antwon Blake has surprisingly been logging a few air miles since the new league started Wednesday evening as he’s making quite a few trips to visit with other NFL teams who are interested in his services.
After visiting with the Tennessee Titans on Monday, Blake will talk next talk to the New England Patriots on Tuesday. After that visit, he has another one currently planned with the Detroit Lions later this week assuming he hasn’t signed a contract by then.
Blake, who originally earned is keep in the league as a solid undrafted special teams player, started 16 games for the Steelers last season at cornerback and recorded 76 total tackles, 2 interceptions and a forced fumble.
While the Steelers would probably like to re-sign Blake for depth and special team purposes, they are probably only willing to do so if he were to take the league minimum on a one-year deal along with an $80,000 signing bonus. Based on the way he played last season on the defensive side of the football, it’s hard to imagine that Blake will receive an offer greater than that from another team.
As of right now, none of the Steelers 15 players who hit free agency this offseason have signed elsewhere.
