The least exciting follow up article after the Ryan Harris news. Sorry.
The Pittsburgh Steelers have apparently been spotted at Youngstown State’s Pro Day, according to NFL Draft Diamonds.
The Penguins don’t have a lot of obvious talent. Their “top ranked” prospect this year is OT Trevor Strickland, listed as the 52nd best OT according to NFL Draft Scout. He began his career as a defensive lineman, moved to tight end, and then spent the past two years as the team’s starting LT. Cornerback Kenneth Dudrden transferred from UCF and picked off one pass this season for YSU.
There also could be D-II and D-III prospects who are working out there because their college did not offer an official Pro Day. That’s common at mid-level schools like this, and it was the story when I went to Villanova last year. Mount Union, a D-III powerhouse, does not appear to have a Pro Day, and is less than an hour away from YSU.
One of Mount Union’s top players is corner Tre Jones, named an All-Conference player who picked off 14 passes over the last two years. He is listed at 5’11 195.
Of course, don’t expect the Steelers to be sending every scout to watch. Sometimes, like Villanova, it is only one, low-ranking person, to get eyes on the event and focus on one or two players.
