Clemson defensive end Shaq Lawson certainly put together a solid 2015 season that included him registering 12.5 sacks in his first full year as a starter. Lawson, who measured in at 6025, 269-pounds at the 2016 NFL scouting Combine, reportedly met with several teams while in Indianapolis and that list includes the Pittsburgh Steelers, who draft 25th overall in the first round.
Lawson ran a 4.7 second 40-yard dash at the combine and posted a 33-inch vertical jump in addition to a 10’0″ broad jump. His short-shuttle time of 4.21 seconds was also impressive based on his size and build.
Due to his great ability to rush the passer, Lawson will be appealing to both 4-3 and 3-4 teams and the fact that he met with 22 different teams at the combine is a testament to that. He did play on his feet some while at Clemson and asked to drop into coverage a little as well. If drafted by the Steelers, he most definitely would be an outside linebacker in their defense.
The Steelers will almost certainly attend the Clemson pro day in order to observe Lawson and several other players go through their workouts. Additionally, Lawson might very well wind up being one of the 30 players who the Steelers bring to Pittsburgh for a pre-draft visit.
