Mike Tomlin and Kevin Colbert were at Clemson’s Pro Day and they’re apparently intent on using one of their 30 pre-draft visits on at least of the players they observed Thursday.
Safety Jayron Kearse told the media he has a visit lined up with five teams, including the Steelers. At the :55 second mark in this video, Kearse lists the teams he’s slated to talk to, courtesy of Orangeandwhite.com.
Kearse also notes he is meeting with the New Orleans Saints, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions, and Jacksonville Jaguars. In an earlier question, he listed the Lions, Saints, and Buccaneers as the teams he’s talked to the most and ones he’s “gotten a good vibe” from.
He’s a huge frame at 6’4, 217 pounds who ran a 4.62 at the Combine. He jumped 31.5 inches in the vert and 10’4″ in the broad. He did, however, struggle today, according to Tony Pauline, who wrote the following blurb on Walterfootball.com.
“Scouts were not impressed by the positional work of Jayron Kearse. He was not as nearly as quick or smooth when taking reps with Green or Alexander. As one source said, Kearse may be best off adding 20 pounds and moving to linebacker.”
In 2015, Kearse recorded 62 tackles, 6.5 of them for a loss, and intercepted one pass, forcing one fumble, and blocking one kick. He declared as a true junior and is projected to be drafted on Day Three. Expect a write up on him in the coming weeks from myself or someone else on the site. We’ll continue to track the Steelers’ official pre-draft visits too, as they are strong indications of who the team will target during the draft.
