The Pittsburgh Steelers certainly don’t need a running back, but that’s not stopping them from getting to know a few of them this week in Indianapolis at the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine.
According to Walter Cherepinsky, the Steelers will attempt get to know San Jose State running back Tyler Ervin up close and personal via a meeting at the combine.
Ervin, who measured in at 5’10”. 192-pounds, rushed for 1601 yards and 13 touchdowns last season on 294 carries. He also caught 45 passes for 334 yards and 2 touchdowns, If that’s not enough, Ervin also returned punts and kickoffs during his college career.
The Steelers get to meet with 60 different players for 15 minutes each while at the combine so it’s not overly surprising to hear that they are talking to a few running backs and especially one that has return experience.
With DeAngelo Williams entering what is likely the final year of his career in 2016, perhaps the Steelers are looking for a late-round prospect to challenge for the No. 3 spot on the depth chart behind him and starter Le’Veon Bell.
