You can add guard David DeCastro to the list of players fined for their actions in Sunday’s game between the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.
According to Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.com, DeCastro was hit with an $8000 fine for grabbing the facemask of Bengals defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry at the bottom of a pile Sunday. The Steelers guard will reportedly appeal that fine.
The infraction happened late in the fourth quarter after Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict pushed Steelers fullback Roosevelt Nix backwards and onto the ground at the conclusion of a goal-line running play. DeCastro took offense to Burfict’s actions and tried to remove Burfict off of Nix. That’s when Gilberry got involved and all hell broke loose.
While Burfict did receive a 15-yard penalty for unnecessary roughness on the play, he was not fined for his actions. In addition, he wasn’t fined for hitting Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger below the knees earlier in the game.
As of last night there are no reports of any Bengals players being fined. It doesn’t mean it hasn’t happened, however, as players are not obligated to inform the media of their fines.
