Even though the Pittsburgh Steelers fell to the No. 8 seed this past week following their Sunday road loss to the Seattle Seahawks, their projected odds of making the playoffs are still relatively good.
According to the latest projections compiled by Mike Harris of Football Outsiders, the Steelers have 44% of making the playoffs this season in some form or fashion.
Obliviously, the Steelers will need a minor miracle at this point in order to win the AFC North and Harris gives them a 1.8% chance of that happening. When it comes to the Steelers making it as a Wild Card, however, Harris has those odds at 42.3%.
Thanks in part to their 3-4 record against AFC teams so far this season, the Steelers currently sit behind the Kansas City Chiefs, Houston Texans and New York Jets when it comes to the race for the two Wild Card spots in the conference. The (6-5) Chiefs, however, do own tiebreakers over the Steelers thanks to their Week 8 home win over Pittsburgh.
This coming Sunday night, the Steelers have an opportunity to win their fourth game against an AFC opponent as they will host the Indianapolis Colts at Heinz Field. A win over the Colts, combined with a loss by two of the three aforementioned teams seeded ahead of them, would result in the Steelers being back in control of their own destiny with four weeks left in the 2015 season.
The Chiefs will play the Oakland Raiders on the road Sunday while the Texans will travel to play the Buffalo Bills. The Jets are also considered a road team in Week 13 as they will play the New York Giants at MetLife stadium.
Harris also has updated the Super Bowl odds ahead of Week 13 and he currently gives the Steelers a 1.4% chance of winning their seventh championship in 2015.
