In a move that was expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers have announced they have placed Le’Veon Bell on injured reserve, signing running back Isaiah Pead in his place.
Bell suffered a torn MCL in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. It’s the second straight season his year has been ended by an MCL injury. He missed last year’s Wildcard game due to an injury suffered in Week 17, also against the Bengals.
Pead was a 2012 second round pick by the St. Louis Rams. He rarely saw the field and when he did, struggled to hold onto the football. He fumbled once in his two carries this season and was cut by the Rams on September 29th. The Steelers showed interest in Pead pre-draft, bringing him in for a visit. It is unclear if he or Jordan Todman will be the #2 running back.
Bell’s season ends with 556 yard rushing and three rushing touchdowns. DeAngelo Williams will be the Steelers’ starter for the rest of the season.
