As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers have now signed rookie defensive end Caushaud Lyons to their practice squad now that he has cleared waivers.
Lyons, who was originally claimed off waivers by the Steelers from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers just prior to the start of the regular season, was waived Wednesday from the team’s 53 man roster in order to make room for promoted rookie linebacker Anthony Chickillo.
It’s still unclear as to why the Chickillo promotion from the practice squad was necessary and he was one of the Steelers seven inactive players Thursday night for the game against the Baltimore Ravens. The move may have been made in order to prevent him from signing with another team.
As for Lyons, he didn’t dress for any of the Steelers first three games.
