You can add safety Mike Mitchell to the list off Pittsburgh Steelers players who have had their paychecks docked since the Monday night win over the San Diego Chargers.
According to Pro Football Talk, Mitchell was fined $8,681 for a hit in the game on Chargers tight end Antonio Gates as it was deemed an unnecessary manner. The hit reportedly happened away from the play.
In the Steelers Week 4 game against the Baltimore Ravens, wide receiver Steve Smith accused Mitchell of a cheap spearing shot to his back even though it looked like on tape that all of the safety’s tackles and hits were clean. Mitchell was not penalized or fined for actions in that game.
Mitchell is now the third Steelers player to be fined this past week as defensive ends Cameron Heyward and Stephon Tuitt both lost money for uniform violations. All three players are expected to appeal.
