The Pittsburgh Steelers have now finalized their initial 53 man roster for the 2015 season, but during his Saturday press conference, head coach Mike Tomlin hinted that a more moves might be forthcoming prior to the team’s Thursday night regular season opener against the New England Patriots.
“We’re going through a few procedural things with the roster cutdown. Some of those things are ongoing and probably will be ongoing for the next day or so as other teams make their decisions and we evaluate what’s available,” said Tomlin. “Just normal procedure for us. So we acknowledge that we’ve got a little bit of our business done, obviously with the game coming on Thursday, but we’ll continue to keep an eye on what’s going on in other cities and the things that may help us be better.”
The Steelers initial 53 man roster includes just seven healthy offensive linemen and two true running backs. Because of that, one could easily speculate that they are watching the final round of cuts in order to add players at those two positions.
One move that we know will happen next week is the placing of center Maurkice Pouncey on injured reserve with the designated to return tag. That move will likely take place on Tuesday.
