For the final time, we’ll break down the training camp statistics from the skill positions. Another friendly reminder these numbers lack context and should only be used as supplemental evidence for how a player did. They’re just a fun, unique way to break camp down that you won’t find anywhere else.

Final Thoughts
– Landry Jones threw 10 interceptions. The rest of the Steelers’ quarterbacks threw seven. That’s the most alarming training camp stat with Jones. It’s an offensive friendly environment, especially for a position that isn’t even allowed to skin his knee. An interception once every 23.4 attempts is ugly.
– You can see the backups, Chisholm and Heard, getting the grunt work, combining for 58 of the 97 carries over the last three practices I’ve logged. That’s a tick under 60%. Chisholm, signed partway through camp, led the team in carries. Stingily still finished third.
– Heard only participated in seven practices, and barely did anything in his first one, but still wound up with more carries than Harris or Archer.
– Sammie Coates was peppered with targets over the last three practices though the catch percentage was Derek Moye-esque. 35.3%.
– Wheaton with a healthy 80% catch percentage, the highest among receivers with at least 10 targets.
– DHB with a couple drops in team drills to end camp, giving him a more realistic description of his hands. Five drops in all, and there were several more in individuals.
– Interceptions by position.
Cornerback: 11
Safety: 4
Linebacker: 2
– Based on my log, the Steelers ran 995 plays. They threw the ball 606 times in camp compared to 389 runs. Percentages, that’s a 60.9%/39.1% split.
– Went back and cobbled together the results from the seven shots series, which took place from practice #1 through #16. Didn’t run it the last two days.
The final results. The offense scored 55 times while the defense held 57. As close as it gets but the defense wins by a nose. Kudos.
