The Pittsburgh Steelers appear set to add another tight end during the 2015 NFL Draft and it appears as though they’re interested in South Alabama product Wes Saxton.
According to Sexton’s Twitter feed, he is flying to Pittsburgh and that likely means he’ll have a Friday pre-draft visit with the organization.
Saxton, who measures in at 6033, 248-pounds, caught 20 passes for 155 yards last season in the 12 games he played in. A left ankle sprain forced him to miss one game and limited him severely in a few others.
In 2013, Saxton caught 50 passes for 635 yards but he failed to score a touchdown. He was, however, named first-team All-Sun Belt Conference that season.
At the 2015 NFL Scouting Combine, Saxton posted a time of 4.65 seconds in the 40-yard dash. He also did 16 reps on the bench with his 32-inch arms.
Many believe that Saxton will be drafted in the fifth round or later. He’s best described as a move tight end that needs a lot of work on his blocking.
