Wide receiver Lance Moore caught just 14 passes for 198 yards and two touchdowns in his first year with the Pittsburgh Steelers which he now reportedly hopes was his last.
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Moore has asked to be released from his Steelers contract that runs through the 2015 season.
“It didn’t go the way I’d hoped it would go but that’s life in the NFL sometimes,” Moore said after the Steelers were eliminated in the playoffs “It’s unfortunate that it unfolded the way that it did but I enjoyed my time here this season.
“I just want to play so whether that’s here or somewhere else. I’d love to be here, I’d love to be a part of this offense but I think those are decisions that have to be made down the line.”
Moore probably didn’t need to ask for his release as it is bound to happen in the coming weeks. He probably wants to get a jump on free agency so don’t be surprised if the Steelers accommodate his request by releasing him now instead of waiting a few more weeks. Moore and defensive end Cam Thomas have long been expected to be cap casualties during the offseason.
The Steelers will save $1.5 million in 2015 cap space once they do release Moore, who stared his career with the New Orleans Saints.
Steelers WR Lance Moore has asked Pittsburgh for his release, per sources. Moore is two seasons removed from 1,000-yd receiving season.
