After being voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame this past weekend, former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Jerome Bettis will be honored by the organization during a home game at Heinz Field during the 2015 season.
Steelers team president Art Rooney II told fans Wednesday during a Steelers Nation Unite conference call what the team has planned for Bettis after his August enshrinement.
“Jerome is a special guy and we’re really excited about him going into the Hall of Fame this year. As soon as the schedule comes out we’ll sit down with Jerome and kind of pick a game that he wants to come in for and receive his Hall of Fame ring and really share that moment with the fans, which I know he’ll be looking forward to. I would assume it will be pretty early in the season, but as soon as we get the schedule, we’ll pick that game and of course let everybody know.”
It will be interesting to see if Bettis winds up choosing the home game against the Baltimore Ravens like Joe Greene did last season for the retirement of his No. 75. That game was a Sunday night matchup and the Steelers won 43-23.
The Steelers 2015 schedule wont be released until April. It does appear as though the Steelers will play in the Hall of Fame game this year in Canton the day after Bettis is enshrined, according to early rumors.
