The Pittsburgh Steelers lost the Baltimore Ravens 30-17 Saturday night in an AFC Wild Card Game at Heinz Field and below is the passing chart for quarterback Ben Roethlisberger from that game.
As far as Roethlisberger’s deep pass attempts against the Ravens went, he was 7 of 13 (53.9%) on balls thrown 16 or more yards past the line of scrimmage in the air. Being as that was his most amount of deep passing attempts in a single game this season, I think you will see that in just one sentence I destroyed the postgame media narrative that is floating around about Roethlisberger only using sideways passing against the Ravens.
In total, Roethlisberger threw 24 passes that traveled 5 or more yards past the the line of scrimmage. Just look at the charts and compare them to the previous ones and you will clearly see how poorly the narrative that’s floating around really is.
Not included in this chart are the passes that were wiped out by penalties. In case you’re curious, one of those two incompleted passes wiped out by a penalty was thrown 42 yards past the line of scrimmage.
