The Pittsburgh Steelers signed wide receiver Lance Moore during the offseason, but thanks to a groin injury, the longtime member of the New Orleans Saints will not suit up in the 2014 regular season opener Sunday at Heinz Field against the Cleveland Browns.
With Moore ruled out on the Friday injury report, there’s a good chance that second-year wide receiver Justin Brown will see a lot of playing time against the Browns when the Steelers have three wide receivers on the field. In addition to Brown, Darrius Heyward-Bey should also benefit from Moore being sidelined.
Also ruled out for Sunday’s game is cornerback Brice McCain (groin) as he’s still recovering from a groin injury that he suffered during the preseason finale.
Rookie wide receiver Martavis Bryant (shoulder) isn’t expected to suit up Sunday against the Browns as he ends the week listed as doubtful on the injury report.
Center Cody Wallace (finger) is listed as questionable on the Friday injury report, while linebacker Sean Spence (knee), tight end Matt Spaeth (hamstring) and long snapper Greg Warren (knee) all end the week listed as probable.
OUT: McCain (groin), Moore (groin) DOUBTFUL: Bryant (shoulder) QUES: Wallace (finger) PROB: Spaeth (hammy), Spence (knee), Warren (knee)
