Steelers Not Expected To Play QB Ben Roethlisberger Against Panthers

You likely won’t have to worry about Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger getting injured in the preseason finale against the Carolina Panthers as the veteran said Monday he’s not expecting to play Thursday night, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

So far during the preseason, Roethlisberger is 24-of-37 passing for 331 yards with three touchdowns and one interception in the three games he has played in.

With Roethlisberger likely to sit out Thursday night, we could see a heavy dose of third-string quarterback Landry Jones, who has not looked sharp in his limited playing time during the preseason. It is unknown if backup Bruce Gradkowski will start Thursday night during the Panthers.

The Panthers will also rest their starting quarterback Thursday night at Heinz Field as Cam Newton is currently trying to recover from a rib injury.
