The Pittsburgh Steelers won’t begin training camp for two more weeks, so I thought we would spend this week talking about a few players that many believe will have a decent shot at making the final 53 man roster. Basically, these are players that we can’t quite consider locks, but do consider as being on the bubble.
After reading the recap of the player that we highlight, you can cast your vote as to whether or not you think that player will make the final 53 man roster. Each poll will run for three days.
The fourth player up in this series is wide receiver Derek Moye.
2013 Season Recap:
Moye surprised several people last year when he made the Steelers 53 man roster out of training camp. In order to get that roster spot, he had to beat out Justin Brown, a sixth-round draft pick and former Penn State teammate of his. As far as Moye’s contributions on offense last season for the Steelers, they were few as he only dressed for seven games and played 53 total snaps. He did catch two passes for 20 yards and a touchdown in his limited playing time. More importantly is the fact that Moye barely played on special teams during the games he was active for. We have him down as playing on just four special teams plays in total.
2014 Outlook:
Moye really has his work cut out for him again this year in training camp as he not only has to beat out Brown again for a roster spot, but Darrius Heyward-Bey as well. The fact that Moye played so little last year on special teams during the games that he dressed for is perhaps the most concerning thing right now. As a fourth or fifth wide receiver this year, special teams play will be a must.
