Last year at this same time, cornerback Terry Hawthorne, the Pittsburgh Steelers fifth-round selection in the 2013 NFL Draft, was sidelined for OTA practices after having bone chips removed from one of his knees.
Hawthorne, who was eventually waived before the start of the 2013 season, signed Saturday with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL.
Following Hawthorne being waived by the Steelers, he struggled to find another team willing to give him a workout. The New England Patriots kicked his tires last September, but that is as far as it went as they didn’t even feel like he was worthy of signing to the practice squad.
Hawthorne registered six interceptions in the 44 games that he played at Illinois.
