A lot of fans had high hopes for Pittsburgh Steelers guard Nik Embernate in 2014 after his 2013 rookie season was wiped out by a knee injury suffered in training camp, but the team decided to move on from the undrafted San Diego State product on Thursday.
With Embernate being waived, the open spot on the 90 man roster was filled by tackle Emmanuel McCray, who was waived by the St. Louis Rams a few weeks ago.
McCray, who went undrafted, played in 38 career games with 17 starts at left tackle for the University of Mississippi.
While he was eligible to do so, Embernate was unable to participate in the Steelers rookie minicamp immediately following the draft. Reports also stated this week that Embernate still wasn’t healthy enough to practice during the OTA practices.
