Peter King of Sports Illustrated has now released a mock of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft and it even includes a few projected trades.
On Monday, King wrote that he’s been hearing that the Philadelphia Eagles are interested in trading up for LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. and he managed to work that into his mock by having the Eagles trade up seven spots with the Pittsburgh Steelers. While King doesn’t note what picks were swapped in the trade, we can only assume he was fair. (Edit: (Acquired from Pittsburgh for first- and second-round picks)
After having the Steelers move down in round one, King still manages to mock Virginia Tech cornerback Kyle Fuller to them at No. 22 overall.
The Steelers are desperate to rebuild their cornerback depth chart, and this four-year starter in the ACC is a good way to begin. He’s physical too, the kind of player Mike Tomlin demands in the defensive backfield.
I would be ecstatic if the Steelers were able to move down and still manage to draft Fuller, and I know a few of you would be as well. In case you missed it, here is my post from a few days ago about Fuller and why he deserves to be the Steelers first-round selection.
As far as the rest of King’s mock draft goes, he has seven wide receivers and four cornerbacks being drafted in the first round to go along with three quarterbacks.
