TCU cornerback Jason Verrett is considered by many to be the fifth-best cornerback in this year’s draft class and he is yet another player that is scheduled to have a visit in April with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
In a Tuesday evening interview on SiriusXM NFL Radio, Verrett told Alex Marvez that he is currently slated to be in Pittsburgh on April 13th.
Verrett, who measured in at the 2014 NFL Scouting Combine at 5094 and 189 pounds, also told Marvez that he had surgery in March to repair a torn Labrum and that his recovery time is slated to be three months. The young cornerback expects, however, to be ready for training camp.
In 2013, Verrett registered two interceptions, 14 pass breakups and one forced fumble to go along with 39 total tackles.
Verrett’s lack of size makes him a prime candidate to play in the slot, but it could also prevent him from being drafted in the first two rounds as well. He’s not a great tackler and that could also hurt his overall draft stock.
The Steelers are bringing in quite a few cornerbacks for pre draft visits this offseason and a few more names are sure to surface in the month of April. On Wednesday, the Steelers hosted top-rated Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard.
