Earlier in the day, it was reported that the New York Jets and Baltimore Ravens both have interest in Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent safety Ryan Clark. Now, Dianna Marie Russini of NBC News 4 in Washington, D.C is reporting on Twitter that sources tell her that the Jets do not expect to sign him.
In addition to that bit of news, Russini is also reporting that the Washington Redskins will re-sign safety Brandon Meriweather to a one-year contract, which could mean Clark won’t be landing back with the team he played with for two seasons prior to him coming to Pittsburgh.
If Russini’s reports wind up being correct, that would likely leave the Ravens, Minnesota Vikings and Carolina Panthers as the only three reported teams having interest in Clark.
The Ravens stand to lose veteran safety James Ihedigbo during free agency and in addition, they are likely going to want to move Matt Elam to strong safety in 2014. That would mean their need for a free safety would increase and it would make sense that they would have interest in Clark for one season.
