It’s Monday and CBS Sports draftniks Rob Rang and Dane Brugler have both released their latest mocks of the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft as we enter week two of the new league year.
For Rang, he has the Pittsburgh Steelers selecting Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix, while Brugler has Michigan State cornerback Darqueze Dennard going to the Steel City with the 15th overall selection.
With age and bloated contracts catching up to the Steelers, there could be sweeping changes in Pittsburgh, especially in the secondary. Fluid and instinctive, Clinton-Dix could provide an eraser in the deep middle to patch up holes quickly.
The Steelers have several needs on defense and although they usually address the cornerback position in the middle rounds, Dennard might be too attractive to pass up with this pick. Both general manager Kevin Colbert and head coach Mike Tomlin were present at his on-campus pro day last week.
Somebody should probably let Rang know that the Steelers signed former Carolina Panthers safety Mike Mitchell on day one of free agency. I’m pretty shocked to see him with a safety going to the Steelers in round one.
As for Brugler, I can see where his head is at with his selection of Dennard, but with Texas A&M wide receiver Mike Evans also still on the board in his mock, that might be a tough decision for the Steelers to make.
Chime in with your thoughts on both these mocks in the comments below.
