According to several media reports Sunday night, the Baltimore Ravens will hold a press conference on Monday to announce they have signed linebacker Terrell Suggs to a long-term extension.
Suggs, who recorded 10 sacks in 2013, is about to enter the final year of his contract that is scheduled to pay him a base salary of $7.8 million. In addition, he is scheduled to count $12.4 million against the Ravens salary cap in 2014 due to signing bonus proration still needing to be accounted for.
It will be interesting to see how much new money that Suggs, 31, gets guaranteed as part of the extension. One would think that a good portion of the $7.8 million that he is scheduled to earn in 2014 will be rolled over into a signing bonus along with a few more million. When the dust settles, however, the Ravens should be able to drop his 2014 cap charge quite a bit. We will pass along the numbers as soon as the come available.
In other Ravens news, running back Ray Rice was reportedly arrested in Atlantic City this weekend after an altercation with his fiancé. Both were apparently charged with simple assault and released with a summons to appear in court.
The Ravens have since issued a brief statement following the incident.
“We are aware of the Friday night situation with Ray Rice and his fiancé. We have spoken with Ray, and know that they returned home together after being detained.”
Rice rushed for just 660 yards and four touchdowns in 2013 on 214 carries. He also chipped in 58 catches for another 321 yards.
