According to Burt Lauten, the Pittsburgh Steelers Communications Coordinator, tight end Matt Spaeth will begin practicing with the team on Thursday.
Spaeth, who suffered a Lisfranc injury during training camp, was re-evaluated on Tuesday and apparently proved to be ready to resume practicing.
Once Spaeth hits the practice field, the Steelers will have 21 days to activate him to 53-man roster or place him on season-ending injured reserve.
The Steelers have sorely missed Spaeth as a blocking tight end in the running game. Last season with the Chicago Bears, he graded out as the best run blocker at his position.
Spaeth almost certainly won’t be ready to play by Sunday against the Cleveland Browns, however. The Steelers play the Baltimore Ravens one week from today, so perhaps he can be ready to make his season debut by then. We’ll just have to wait and see.
