The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette is reporting Friday that police have arrested Jerrell Whitlock, who is believed to be the third suspect accused in the stabbing of Pittsburgh Steelers tackle Mike Adams earlier this month. Whitlock had fled the Pittsburgh area following the incident and was arrested in Florida.
On Thursday, the Associated Press reported that the preliminary hearing had been postponed for Dquay Means and Michael C. Paranay, the two men who already been arrested and charged with trying to carjack Adams while authorities search for Whitlock.
Means and Paranay both remain jailed on conspiracy and other charges related to the attack.
According to WJXT in Jacksonville, the Columbia County Sheriff\’s Office in Florida received tips earlier this week that Whitlock may have been in its county. They also report that Whitlock was also wanted for violating the conditions of his probation/parole on a 2006 conviction for firearms not to be carried without a license.
Adams has been out of the hospital for well over a week now following surgery to repair stab wounds that reportedly resulted in a lacerated colon. The Steelers second-year tackle was present for the teams final offseason practice that took place on Wednesday as he had an appointment with the team doctor that same day.
Adams is expected to make a full recovery, and the hope is that he will be ready for the start of training camp later next month.
UPDATE: according to WPXI on Twitter, Whitlock\’s family helped police track him down in Florida and police had to use a taser to subdue Whitlock during the arrest as he tried to run from them.
