Steelers Only Expected To Have A Few Players Miss First OTA Session Of 2013

The first OTA session of the 2013 season for the Pittsburgh Steelers will get underway on Tuesday and only a few players are not expected to participate.

As far as injured players go, tight end Heath Miller (knee) and linebacker Sean Spence (knee) are both expected to be sidelined as they continue to rehab their knee injuries suffered last season. Neither are expected to practice in any of the Steelers OTA sessions or mini camp and both are also expected to open up training camp on the Active PUP list when the team assembles for training camp.

Tackle Marcus Gilbert (ankle), tackle Mike Adams (ankle), cornerback Curtis Brown (ankle), cornerback Ike Taylor (ankle), running back Baron Batch (arm), cornerback DeMarcus Van Dyke (shoulder) and linebacker Chris Carter (abdomen) are all expected to be ready to practice after ending the 2012 season on the Steelers injured reserve list.

Wide receiver Markus Wheaton, who the Steelers drafted in the third-round of the 2013 NFL draft last month, will not be allowed to participate next week because he has yet to graduate as Oregon State is one of the few schools that still uses the quarters system. Wheaton, however, should be able to participate in the teams mandatory mini camp that is scheduled to take place on June 11-13.

Although OTA\’s are not mandatory for players to attend, it appears as though the Steelers will have full attendance.
