According to the Youngstown State website, former Penguins tight end Will Shaw has agreed to an undrafted free agent tryout with the Pittsburgh Steelers. The Steelers agreed to full contracts with 15 other undrafted free agents Saturday night as we previously reported.
Shaw, who measured in at his pro day at 6020 and 242-pounds, was voted second-team All-Missouri Valley Football Conference in 2012 after catching 35 passes for 429 yards and five touchdowns in his first full season as a tight end. In 2011, Shaw caught eight passes for 200 yards and had four touchdowns. He orginally played safety and linebacker before making the move to tight end.
At his pro day, Shaw recorded a 4.73 forty yard dash, did 24 reps on the bench and had an impressive 34 1/2-inch vertical to go along with a 10\’02” broad jump.
Pittsburgh safety Jarred Holley and LSU defensive tackle Josh Downs will also tryout for a contract with the Steelers next weekend.
While it is still unconfirmed, it is believed that former Virginia Tech defensive tackle Antoine Hopkins has also agreed to a tryout contract with the Steelers.
The Steelers rookie camp gets underway next weekend.
