Earlier in the week it was reported that Denver Broncos had interest in soon-to-be unrestricted free agent running back Rashard Mendenhall ,and on Tuesday, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette writes that the Arizona Cardinals are also interested in the Steelers former first round draft pick.
The news is not surprising as former Steelers offensive coordinator, and current Cardinals head coach, Bruce Arians seems poised to pounce on Mendenhall later today when the free agent signing period begins after releasing running backs Beanie Wells and LaRod Stephens-Howling over the course of this past week.
Miami Dolphins running back Reggie Bush has also been linked as a possible free agent target of the Cardinals, but he really does not fit the Arians offense as well as Mendenhall, one of his former running backs, would.
The free agent signing period begins at 4:00 p.m. EST today and the Steelers are not only expected to lose Mendenhall to another team, but wide receiver Mike Wallace in addition. Wallace is more than likely heading to the Miami Dolphins, but that is far from guaranteed right now. Cornerback Keenan Lewis might also fly out of town via free agency should another team be willing to overpay him.
