As expected, the Pittsburgh Steelers restructured the contract of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger on Thursday and the result of that now puts them under the estimated $123 million cap number.
Roethlisberger is believed to have had $9 million of his $11.6 million base salary turned into a signing bonus via the restructure which would clear $6 million in cap space for 2013.
Roethlisberger\’s 2013 cap charge should now be $13,595,000 after the restructure. His 2014 and 2015 cap charges should be $18,895,000 and $18,395,000 respectively.
In the last three days the Steelers have now cleared over $14 million in cap space via the restructures of Roethlisberger, wide receiver Antonio Brown and linebacker Lawrence Timmons. They are also expected to restructure the contract of LaMarr Woodley, according to several reports. If indeed the Woodley restructure happens it would clear around $6 million more in cap space.
