Steelers Claim NT Hebron Fangupo Off Waivers From Seahawks

The Pittsburgh Steelers filled the 53rd spot on the roster on Saturday by claiming nose tackle Hebron Fangupo off waivers from the Seattle Seahawks.

Fangupo was originally signed by the Houston Texans as an undrafted free agent this season after playing his college ball at Southern California and Brigham Young after serving a two-year Mormon mission in Philippines.

The 6\’1″, 323-pound nose tackle was signed to the Seahawks practice squad on September 11, 2012 after being released by the Texans prior to the start of the season. He was promoted to the Seahawks 53 man roster in Week 16, but waived by them on Friday.

At the combine back in February Fangupo did 36 reps on the bench and posted a 5.18 40 yard dash time to go along with a 4.62 20 yard shuttle.

The Steelers will now have Fangupo to compete with Alameda Ta\’aum next year in training camp and it might prevent them from spending a draft pick this coming April on another nose tackle.

Fangupo is expected to be one of the seven inactive players Sunday against the Browns.
