Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports reports Sunday that Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger was given clearance to practice fully Friday, but chose not to, which ultimately resulted in him being ruled out for the game against the Baltimore Ravens.
La Canfora reports that head coach Mike Tomlin told Roethlisberger he could practice fully on Friday, and that if he did not, he would be ruled out for the game.
Roethlisberger said during the week that he couldn\’t put much zip on the ball, and that he was still in some pain. Roethlisberger also said that he would be honest with the coaching staff as to whether or not he thought he could play and be effective against the Ravens.
La Canfora sounds like he might not be reporting the whole story here and he certainly doesn\’t have a good track record as far as being totally reliable with his reports. Roethlisberger very well might have been cleared to practice on Friday, but he also might have already been told that he would be sitting this week as well.
Until we know more of what went down last week from Roethlisberger and Tomlin, you should take the report by La Canfora with a grain of salt.
