Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin comfirmed during his Tuesday press conference that the team will indeed sign one quarterback and one wide receiver to the roster today.
Several media outlets are reporting that free agent wide receiver Plaxico Burress and quarterback Brian Hoyer are the players that will sign after they worked out for the team earlier in the day.
“He\’s in great physical condition, based on the workout I just saw,” Tomlin said at his Tuesday press conference about Burress. “He drops his weight into his routes real well, and obviously, he knows football.”
The Steelers had also brought in wide receiver Derrick Williams and quarterback Mike Kafka for workouts on Tuesday.
The team is short at both of those positions after both Jerricho Cotchery and Byron Leftwich sustained rib injuries in the loss Sunday night to the Baltimore Ravens.
Tomlin said on Tuesday that Cotchery had suffered multiple rib fractures on the hit that he suffered late in the game and that Leftwich had also suffered a fractured rib as well. The head coach did not think that either player would be lost for the season due to those injuries.
