As expected, Pittsburgh Steelers announced on Wednesday that quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will be out this week against the Baltimore Ravens after suffering a right shoulder strain Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs.
With Roethlisberger out, Byron Leftwich will get the start and it will be his first start since 2009, when he was a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Leftwich stated after the Monday night game that he would be ready but that he needed more reps in practice.
Mike Tomlin said on Tuesday that Roethlisberger had suffered an SC joint sprain, an injury that potentially could sideline the Steelers quarterback for a while. The Steelers play the Ravens two out of the next three games and there is now a distinct possibility that Roethlisberger misses both of them.
There has been no timetable given by the team on how long Roethlisberger will be sidelined.
