Week 8 of the 2012 NFL season is now behind us and here are the TOX stats for the week along with the year to date numbers for all 32 teams at the bottom. The +2 teams went 8-2 this week and that is right at the expected 80% number. This brings the year to date +2 number to 58-17 (77%), which is still 3% lower than the expected number. It should continue to inch back up to 80%.
Teams with a +1 TOX stat finished 1-0 for the week and that brings that year to date number to 16-12 overall. A really meaningless stat as I have piointed out several times before as the premise of the TOX stat is the +2 number.
The Pittsburgh Steelers gave up 3 explosive pass plays this past week, but year to date they have allowed the least amount of explosive plays in the league. Their year-to-date differential number of +19, which leads the league. As I pointed out this morning, they could really use more splash plays on defense. CORRECTED AN ERROR HERE
The New York Giants, who the Steelers will play this week, have allowed 35 explosive pass plays so far this season and only the New England Patriots have allowed more. On offense, both the Steelers and the Giants have 29 explosive passing plays to their credit.
I will be tracking this stat throughout the year as it is a good measuring stick to show how important explosive plays and turnovers are in each and every game.
