Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Lawrence Timmons has been fined $21,000 for his first half hit this past Sunday on New York Jets quarterback Mark Sanchez, according to Joe Starkey of 93.7 The Fan.
The play in question happened on 3rd down with 13:51 left in the first half. Sanchez rolled out to the right side and appeared at first as if he was going to try to run with the ball before throwing incomplete at the last moment to wide receiver Jeremy Kerley. Timmons, who was closing fast on the play, lowered his helmet and hit a defenseless Sanchez in the head.
While Timmons was flagged for the hit, Sanchez did not appear to be the same quarterback afterwards as he went 6-for-22 passing following that play. Prior to being hit by Timmons, Sanchez had completed 4-of-5 passes for 80 yards including a touchdown.
Timmons is the first Steelers player to be fined during the 2012 season.
