Eight individuals with ties to the Pittsburgh Steelers were announced as candidates for the Class of 2013 by the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Thursday.
Leading the list are 2012 finalist, running back Jerome Bettis and linebacker Kevin Greene. Also nominated on Thursday were former Steelers head coaches Bill Cowher and Buddy Parker, along with kicker Gary Anderson, center Jeff Hartings, Bud Carson and Art Rooney, Jr.
The list of 127 nominees will next be narrowed down to 25 semifinalists and those names will be announced in late November. From there the 25 will be narrowed down to 15 modern-era finalists in early January.
The voting for the Class of 2013 will be conducted at the Pro Football Hall of Fame Selection Committee’s annual meeting, which will be held on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013 and the Class of 2013 will be announced the day before Super Bowl XLVII in New Orleans, Louisiana on on Saturday, Feb. 2, 2013.
The Class of 2012 included former Steelers center Dermontti Dawson and cornerback Jack Butler.
