Week 2 of the 2012 NFL season is in the books and here are the second set of TOX stats for the week along with the year to date numbers for all 32 teams at the bottom. The +2 number did not perform up to standards this week as it finished 6-4. that brings the year to date +2 number to 24-6 (80%), which is the expected win percentage of the stat. Funny how that works and evens out.
The Pittsburgh Steelers were one of the four teams that had a +2 TOX or better number that lost this week. Despite the two losses, the defense is doing a good job at limiting explosive plays through the first three games, as they are averaging just 2 allowed per game. Unfortunately, 2 of the 6 that they have allowed have gone for touchdowns.
Teams with a +1 TOX stat went 3-2 for a second in week in a row and that brings that year to date number to 9-5 overall.
The New York Giants had a great Thursday night TOX stat of +7 against the Carolina Panthers and they were weekly TOX winner. It also jumped themn up to second overall in the year to date TOX rankings.
I will be tracking this stat throughout the year as it is a good measuring stick to show how important explosive plays and turnovers are in each and every game.
