The first set of TOX stats for 2012 NFL season have been compiled, and as expected, the well respected +2 number is off to a good start as teams that had a +2 or better number went 9-1 overall.
The stat is based off explosive plays of 20 yards or more and turnovers. The actual stat is derived by taking the differential of both of these stats.

Teams with a +1 TOX stat went 3-1 in week 1 with the Pittsburgh Steelers being the lone team to lose.
The Chicago Bears lead the way in explosive plays with 9, but their defense allowed 7 of them to the Indianapolis Colts. The Bears also lead the way in takeaways with 5.
I will be tracking this stat throughout the year as it is a good measuring stick to show how important explosive plays and turnovers are in each and every game.
