Baltimore Ravens linebacker Terrell Suggs reportedly tore his Achilles’ tendon playing basketball in Arizona earlier this week. The injury will likely force him to miss the entire 2012 NFL season following surgery. Adam Schefter reports that Suggs thinks he could be back in October, per a source. Suggs had a career-high 14 sacks to go along with 70 tackles and 7 forced fumbles in 2011 to earn defensive player of the year honors.
The Ravens said in a statement, “We are in contact with Terrell. He will see a specialist early next week, and we’ll know more at that time.” Baltimore general manager Ozzie Newsome told ESPN’s Josina Anderson that the team learned of the injury earlier this week. “We found out about it on Monday,” Newsome said.
With Suggs now out a considerable amount of time, Pernell McPheecould see a more in his snaps in his place. McPhee produced 23 tackles asnd six sacks for the Ravens last season in limited action. The Ravens also drafted Alabama linebacker Courtney Upshaw with the third pick in the second round. Upshaw played Suggs\’ spot on defense at Alabama and had 9 1/2 sacks and 52 tackles in his senior season with the Crimson Tide.
