Bill Williamson from ESPN.com is reporting that Pittsburgh Steelers unrestricted free agent quarterback Dennis Dixon is visiting with the Denver Broncos. Williamson reports that Dixon\’s visit started before the Broncos signed former Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Hanie.
Dixon was drafted by the Steelers in the fifth round of the 2008 NFL draft and played in just 4 games over a 4 year span in Pittsburgh. He was a restricted free agent after the 2011 season and held off signing his restricted tender in hopes the Steelers would trade him to a team that would give him a chance to compete for the starting quarterback job.
Dixon finally signed his tender at the beginning of training camp and likely would not have made the 53 man roster had Byron Leftwich not broke his arm in the preseason. Dixon dressed for just a handful of games in 2011 for the Steelers as the third quarterback and there were no intentions to bring him back in 2012.
