Steelers defensive end Brett Keisel has been named the team’s Walter Payton Man of the Year and he will be one of 32 NFL teams’ Man of the Year winners who qualifies for the league’s Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which recognizes a player’s off-the-field community service as well his playing excellence. The overall winner will be announced during the week of Super Bowl XLVI in Indianapolis.
Keisel donates his time to a number of charities in the Pittsburgh area and last season he shaved his famous beard as a fundraiser for Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh of UPMC’s Cancer Research Center. The event raised more than $40,000 for the Research Center. Keisel also serves as the Steelers spokesman for the NFL Play 60 Challenge and has visited area schools promoting kids to stay active and exercise 60 minutes per day. He and his wife Sarah are also very active in several other charities in addition.
