Jamison Hensley is reporting via Twitter that wide receiver Jerricho Cotchery has a visit scheduled with the Steelers on Sunday. Cotchery was released by the Jets just a few days ago after being drafted by them in the fourth round of the 2004 NFL draft. Cotchery had been rumored to be wanting out of New York for some time now and originally requested the team trade or release him back in February.
In seven seasons with the Jets he compiled 358 regular season receptions for 4,514 yards. He also has 18 regular season touchdowns during that span. In addition to playing receiver, Cotchery has also played on quite a few special teams units over the years.
The Steelers seem to have a problem filling their 5th or 6th receiving spot and they might be concerned that the foot injury of Emmanuel Sanders could limit him early on in the season. Sanders has been ruled out for the next several weeks after getting a procedure done on his left surgically repaired foot early in camp. Limas Sweed also went down with a shoulder injury today, but the severity of it is not yet known.
In addition to the Steelers interest, Hensley also reports that the Ravens are interested in Cotchery as well.
