Steelers Digest is reporting via Twitter this morning that wide receiver Hines Ward has passed his physical and will return to practice today. Ward has been on the active PUP List since the start of training camp as he recovers from his offseason thumb surgery. He put off the surgery this offseason so he could compete in the reality dance show, Dancing with the Stars. Ward said previously on the Rich Eisen Podcast that he had suffered the torn ligament in his left thumb early in the season last year and played all season with it.
With the Ward activation today, it leaves only guard Chris Kemoeatu and tight end Eugene Bright as the only players on the PUP list. Kemoeatu is nursing a knee problem while Bright is recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
