Episode #54 of The Terrible Podcast is up and in this special edition podcast I interview the Steelers 2011 7th round draft pick Baron Batch, running back from Texas Tech. Baron discusses how he has been received thus far by Steeler Nation since being drafted on Saturday and talks a little about spending draft day with his father in New Orleans and his reaction when he got the call that the Steelers had drafted him. Baron tells about his ankle injury, he suffered early on in his career at Tech and the challenges he had overcoming it and how doctors thought he would not play football again.
Next we talk about his Pro Day workout and Baron talks about Steelers scouts being present and saw enough during his workout to bring him to Pittsburgh for a pre draft visit. We discuss the funny moment of Baron being in Pittsburgh at the same time that the Steelers 3rd round draft pick Curtis Brown was in for his visit and the coaches pulling the two together to watch the replay of Batch chasing down Brown following an interception when the two teams played each other. I ask Baron about his knack for picking up the blitz and his special teams experience while at Tech.
Lastly we discuss his non-profit organization called “2nd Hand Images” that he founded and he tells me in depth about the charity and how it came to be. You can follow Baron Batch on Twitter @baron_batch and read his great writing on his blog at baronbatch.blogspot.com. The 2nd Hand Images website can be found at 2ndHandImages.com.
I enjoyed talking with Baron and thank him for his time. We hope to have him on again soon.
Thanks for listening!
